Positioned just in the middle of France’s southern coast, the tiny mountaintop town of Èze is unrivaled for its stunning panoramas of the Mediterranean. It's not as glitzy as Monte-Carlo or as dynamic as Nice, but this place nonetheless has an unmistakable allure—upon leaving, you'll immediately want to return.
Since the 3rd century BCE, Èze has never grown beyond its area of barely three miles, but its charm extends far beyond its small size. Wander through Fragonard’s perfume factory or stop at one of the outdoor hilltop bars, then finish at the Jardin Exotique d’Èze, designed atop the vestiges of a château. It’d be difficult not to list its views as some of the most breathtaking you could ever hope to experience! From this vantage point amongst the flowering cacti and elegant carvings of goddesses, it becomes abundantly clear why this shoreline is called the Côte d’Azur.
There are really only two hotels in the village, but you probably wouldn't want to stay anywhere else, anyway: both have five-star lodgings and each features incredible vistas of the sea beyond. Château Eza has stone-walled suites with fireplaces and arched doorways, while La Chèvre d'Or boasts private terraces, hot tubs, and an on-site spa. What's more, its on-site restaurant of the same name is widely regarded as the best in the village (two Michelin stars will do that). Dinner there is pricey, but those stars don't lie.
What to carry up the hills of Èze? Our Sling Backpack in electric blue, its color a striking rival to the brilliant hues of the Mediterranean.
