My admiration for Ulla Johnson’s Fall ‘18 collection has turned into an obsession of epic proportions. Her designs are the perfect amount of feminine and flounce while remaining wearable. I could really dedicate weeks to writing about this collection. Delicate lace and silks, along with lush velvet and  knits, lay the foundation for the intricate embroidery, bows, ruffles, gathers and puffed sleeves. To top it all off, there’s an explosion of rose gold sparkle that is certain to make every feminine bone in our bodies crave to be the figure adorned.

For me, there’s a time for pared-down utilitarian pieces, and then there’s a time for layers and layers of movement and color, quite like the bohemian profusion found in the showiest of blooms—the peony, the dahlia. Ulla Johnson’s construction of her Fall ‘18 pieces spare no exuberance in their beauty. Layering piece by piece creates a fantastical and romantic spectacle for the eye. The intricacies of the lace and knits along with the swath of ruffles and gathers are almost the definition of the beauty of excess, where depth and movement always tell a story.
